Google China launched its official blog: Google blackboard newspaper.
People of at least my age from mainland China will understand the word “Blackboard Newspaper”. What about another even scarier word: “Big-character Newspaper”. Were they coming back? In the new era format – blogs? Yes and No. Yes, Chinese people are desperately trying to find channels to express themselves … nowadays they have it. No, gone is the time when some people can stirrup the craze and manipulate people's thought and actions -- for quite a long time, say 10 years -- for their own political (or other ) agenda. People blog for their own selves. Coming is the network era. Amid regulation, spying, filtering, censoring, we have it at last. Free at last.
I forget from time to time the tremendous power of communications; it's great to be reminded of the difference it makes in people's lives.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Felix rapidly strengthened into a dangerous Category 5 hurricane and churned through the Caribbean Sea on a path toward Central America, where forecasters said it could make landfall as “potentially catastrophic” storm.
Felix was packing winds of up to 165 mph as it headed west, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was projected to skirt Honduras’ coastline on Tuesday before slamming into Belize on Wednesday.
“As it stands, we’re still thinking that it will be a potentially catastrophic system in the early portions of this week, Tuesday evening, possibly affecting Honduras and then toward the coast of Belize,” said Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist at the center in Miami.

One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: "Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. "
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with ten children - he's trying to catch up on his sleep."
I cried from laughter
